It is the year 1978, and the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry step out into a world darkened by the war. The lines that once formed the barriers between the houses are falling, to be replaced with ones of their own creation; Death Eaters, the loyal servant of the Dark Lord Voldemort; the Order of the Phoenix, dedicated to bringing down the evil by any means possible; and those who struggle to remain Neutral, forever caught between the two extremes. Trust is an illusion, when you can never truly know who is your ally, and who is only waiting for the perfect moment to stab you in the back.
With less then a year until the Last Night, which side will you choose?

When she laughed Rodolphus could not stop himself from joining in with a quiet laugh of his own- it was real and there was no chance of him suddenly waking up alone at the common room. He listened at Angelica and without hint of hesitation he followed the small woman inside the Astronomy classroom. Almost immediately he felt the change: no heavy rain or the stubborn noise made by the storm outside- a storm that refused to fade away just as they refused to spend the night without each other. Green eyes scanned the room with mild interest as he never before had stepped inside the classroom after school hours: it was so quiet and everything was in place… unlike in the morning when chaos usually took over the place. Her words about not liking heights stole a curious look from Rodolphus about the same time a smile found home on his lips again. “Does it mean I’m not allowed to carry you in my arms?” he teased her gently- the height difference between them impossible to forget. He had always been remarkably tall- a trait inherited from his father- and truth be told never appreciated towering over most people around him. He often felt too exposed to them but at the same time had to admit it was useful when in need to intimidate the potential enemies. But that was not the case now- he certainly didn’t want to look intimidating to Angelica: the dark-haired did seem very fragile from where he stood in front of her yet he reminded himself she was not made of thin glass. He felt a strange need to protect her from everything and everyone but that wasn’t exactly a new feeling- it was just an old feeling that until then did not find an explanation. He understood better now that he had left denial behind.
Rodolphus continued to study her beautiful features as she stood on her tip toes and pressed a small hand flat against his chest to avoid loosing balance. The kiss made him smile once again- tonight he was making some serious catching up in the smile department- and in silence he wrapped one strong arm around her waist. They were going to catch their deaths but he agreed with her 100%- he did not object against spending the next week with a nasty cold if that meant spending the night with her. “We agree- I refuse to leave.” he said- the wet shirt against his skin but not causing him any particular distress. He was exactly where he wanted to be and nothing was going to change his mind. “Catching a cold seems totally worth it if you ask me!” he added with a short laugh. The experimental kiss did not feel strange as he could have imagined and he was glad no discomfort or shame took over them by the end of it. “I’m glad to inform you that did not feel like kissing family at all,” Not that the young man had kissed any close relatives but they didn’t mean exactly that- it was something not easy to explain but the important thing was that no awkwardness or the feeling of doing something wrong lingered in the air. When she traced his lower lip with her fingertips he softly kissed them and obediently bent forward until he was standing at her height. “I wouldn’t have it any different. It couldn’t be more perfect even in its imperfection.” Rodolphus remained close to her- painfully aware of how well she fit in his arms and how alive she made him feel. It was as if someone had made her for him and vice versa. He only pulled away to steal another kiss: no longer having to think about it like the first time. His other arm wrapped around her waist and picked her up from the ground. He held her close and had no intention to drop her- kissing her was a whole new world he was eager to explore.

”You may be tall, but I don’t know if you can reasonably be considered ‘a height’!” Angelica replied with a quiet laugh. She had never been brought up to expect or anticipate joy- it was something fleeting and rare, that could never be held onto, no matter how desperate the attempt. Angelica knew this moment would have to pass eventually, but for the first time in more then a year, it wasn’t the future that seemed so frightening. He had promised that he wouldn’t marry Bella- she had thrown the symbol of her engagement to Ian from the highest point in the school, and never felt more free. Perhaps it wouldn’t be perfect, but as the warmth of his body began to thaw her chilled skin, the dark haired young woman couldn’t help the emotional little laugh of utter disbelief. No pretending, no lies- just the two of them together as they should have realized long ago they should be.
A pool of icy water was beginning to gather around them, heavy and drenched clothing hanging around their disheveled selves. A far cry from the superior and perfected Royal dolls that the world always saw, and more fitting in it’s strange perfection. The butterflies that fluttered wildly about in her stomach, the almost lightheaded feeling- the impossible and never dared dream for future, crashing to the very depths of their own hopeless despair; only to discover that there was the door, the escape into this blissful light. ”Even if we have to go back to pretending for the masses, Roddy, just remember that it isn’t real.” Her words paused by his lips for a moment, and she couldn’t bring herself to complain. Every touch was unexpected electricity, and though some part of her mind realized that she would be shivering with cold soon, she suspected she wouldn’t even notice. ”And even if I’m not looking at you, doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be completely distracted by you all the time- so any of my terrible exam scores are going to be completely blamed on you.”
Someone had once said that the experience of falling in love was like walking on air- but apparently when one was falling for Rodolphus Lestrange, the feeling was more literal! Angelica squeaked in high pitched surprise as her feet left the ground, holding onto him a little tighter as she was brought up to a much more comfortable height. ”You could warn me! I’m not a toy, you know!” She teased, the sudden blush staining her cheeks, visible even in the darkness, was more then enough to betray the fact that she didn’t really mind at all. Had it been anyone else, she would have demanded that they put her down before they dropped her- not so in this case. The idea never even crossed her mind, as she loosely draped her arms over his shoulders and melted into his kisses- a little easier now that she didn’t have to balance on the tip of her toes to do so! ”Mm, see-“ She murmured in amusement against his mouth as they pulled away just enough to steal a breath. ”I could really get used to this.”

Rodolphus pretended to be offended by her playful words- a mock gasp and light shock written in his olive green eyes: standing six feet six inches above the ground had been his personal burden and Renault was the one to take the blame yet another time. Old photographs put in evidence that Rodolphus resembled not his father but his uncle Rolande. Most believed it was the other way but then again not many remembered the youngest son of Rémy and Violet Lestrange due to his sudden death two years after the birth of Rabastan. It was in fact his little brother the one who pointed out what should had been obvious to everyone- at least according to him- and Rodolphus could hardly denied the resemblance: everything but the color of their eyes seemed to match to perfection. And he thought he had inherited more from his mother- perhaps because Renault complained often on the matter. All the suddenly he understood the problem was in the fact he could had been mistaken by his uncle and not in the fact he had ‘dared’ to inherit the green eyes of the Dolohov family. He also soon discovered it bothered his father when he spoke in perfect French- perhaps the similarities more frightening than anyone wanted to admit- and thus his mother urged him to avoid upsetting the wizard for no reason. Now and then he mutters a few words under his breath but no longer spoke as openly as he did as a child. So unlike Renault who still had a faded French accent that refused leaving him for good. But enough of heights and family resemblances. He knew Angelica did not care about how uncommonly tall he was or if he resembled his dead uncle: she found him attractive- or at least he believed it!- and loved for who he was. At last they were together and in full ownership of the truth- they will have to pretend for the world but no longer between them.
“Of course I will remember but it doesn’t mean it won’t bother me- it won’t be easy to pretend but I will give the best of me. There will be no doubt left in their minds- I promise. You just do the same and remember I will be acting for their amusement.” He could not help but smile at her following words and actually laughed quietly at them as first respond. “Why should I take the blame? It will be you the one distracted by me! Go and blame your lack of self-control- that would be the fair thing to do!” And- of course- Rodolphus was joking. He would be in the same position if not worse. He had been unable to focus since he thought she was gone from his life and thus suspected he will be more than distracted now that he had discovered she felt the same way he did. To Hell with final exams and scores that never meant anything to him. He had been a relatively good student most of the six previous years so what does it matter if he decided it was best if he could avoid the same fate? “Alright- blame me but that means that I will have every reason to blame you for my terrible scores. Do we have a deal?” he then added- a light grin spreading over his handsome features before he picked her up in his arms as he felt both his back and neck will appreciate the lack of tension in the muscles. “Warn you? But not giving you a warning is- in fact- the idea. And- correct me if I’m wrong- I don’t hear any complains forming on your very kissable lips.” Ah! He was going to enjoy the teasing between them just like he did back in the old days when they were good friends and nothing else. Well- some things were never meant to change. He kissed her and deepened the kiss as much as the air in his lungs allowed it. He loved how it felt- a whole different world waiting to be discovered.
“Good- I have every intention of kissing you as much as I can.” And he kissed her again just to prove his point! A much more passionate kiss that made him forget where they were until he loose his balance for a just a fraction of time and hit what it seemed to be the edge of a desk that was probably use by the professor in charge. He chuckles and turned so he could help Angelica on top of the table- more comfortable for both of them in all truth. He did not even think about reaching for one of those small round tables that had always been a nightmare to sit at! “Still getting used to it?” Rodolphus then murmured against her lips- just brushing them playfully against hers and nibbling on her bottom lip before stealing a slow kiss. He could not remember when had been the last time he felt so perfectly at ease and without doubts in the back of his mind yet so unsure of how to behave. But he did not show his doubts in his actions- he was not shy with her and liked when she blushed as he held her against him. The wet clothes did not matter at all as the warmth was returning to his skin and hers- encouraged by their closeness and eagerness to not miss a moment of the amazing sensations a kiss brought to them. “Or do I have to keep trying?” One hand slipped behind her neck while the other one remained resting against the small of her back- long fingers caressing the exposed skin lightly. He soon realized she was intoxicating- he wanted more and more and still it was never enough.

They had been brought up to question everything except for the rule of their own parents- not that it had ever worked. Neither Cassius nor Renault had ever really succeeded in teaching them anything more then to pretend very very well. But here- as far away from those all seeing eyes as they could ever be- it was like being able to breathe for the first time in years. They still had a chance to convince their parents to let them be together (and surely, without the influence of her husband, Aurelia would be willing..right?). And maybe this would take some getting used to; changing the entirety of their relationship overnight was impossible… Or not. Angelica couldn’t hide the bright grin that seemed determined to remain on her face, not that she really tried anyway. Evan was going to have a heart attack- of that much she was absolutely certain- though whether he would accept it or not was a different story… The little witch put those thoughts out of her mind for the moment. They would have to be dealt with, yes, but she had given herself permission not to dwell on the maybes and might bes of the days to come.
”It’s all for their amusement, Roddy- bunch of oblivious sheep that they are. We’ll just steal as much time as we can together, it’s not like you really need to worry too much about your grades anyway. As long as they aren’t completely abysmal, then even uncle Renault won’t be given too much space to complain.” Angelica said lightly, kissing his nose by way of punctuation. To his comment about it being her fault, she just gave him a properly coy smirk and sketched the shape of a halo over her head. ”My self control is more then up to the task of dealing with the likes of you- I have more then enough practice, after all. So even if you do plan to do everything by sneak attack, then it’s not like I don’t already know all your tricks.” Not that she was given much space to argue, any further words summarily cut off by a kiss that was far more pleasant then picking on him anyway.
They were both observant, yes. So how was it that they had never realized that something as simple as a kiss could be so much better when it was between them? A series of pointless, unsatisfying relationships in the past; completely oblivious to the fact that the person that made them finally feel whole was right in front of them all along? Yesterday, that though might have had the power to tear her apart- today, it was just another in a long line of the ironic twists of Fate. They were together now- the hows and whys that lead them here could be forgotten. Her arms wrapped tightly around his neck, Angelica lightly ran her thumb over the space that her ring, the symbol tying her to Ian, had rested until recently. It should have hurt, it should have felt like the terrible betrayal that it was… It didn’t. But even that thought was fleeting, the feeling of Rod’s lips against hers doing a brilliant job of making her forget everything but the very moment they were living in at that moment.
”Careful!” She laughed quietly as he helped her onto the table that they had been leaning against. It was scattered with the neat stacks of finished assignments and Angelica carefully moved a small bottle of ink before it was knocked over. ”I think I’ll let you keep trying..” She said after a long, mock thoughful pause; holding up both hands as if weighing the idea carefully between them. ”That Is, if you want to.” She finished with a teasing lilt. Threading one hand carefully through his wet hair, smoothing it out of his eyes so she could look into his familiar green eyes. ”But I think if that’s your idea, then we probably should find somewhere more comfortable then right here- or else I have this nagging suspicion that we’re practically begging for a nasty interruption.” Angelica rested on bare foot against the hollow of his knee as she spoke, her gaze absently darting over to the door that she knew was somewhere out in the darkness. ”And as much as I don’t really care- I don’t want to have to let go of you, just because someone had the bad sense to be here at the wrong time.”

Rodolphus was so deeply concerned about the upcoming conversation with Renault that for a moment he had pushed Evan to the back of his mind. Well- that was one conversation he might not escape alive. Evan was his best friend and it should not be difficult to share the later turn of events with him but since Angelica was directly involved the situation was far from simple. He was going to tell his best friend that he was in love with his little sister and that they were going to convince their parents to end his engagement to Bellatrix so they could be together. In his mind sounded so damned simple but Rodolphus could already imagine the look of horror and disbelief in the black eyes as he gave away their plan. Evan was going to be upset- oh Gods- and would not be a surprise if he also felt the urge to hex Rodolphus into oblivion for daring to lay a finger on Angelica. So no- the tall Slytherin was not looking forward to have that one conversation with his best mate even if he knew he could not avoid it forever. Though in the end he was secretly willing to wear a black eye if that meant he could be with the little witch that has stolen the heart he was supposed not to have. “Yes- Renault won’t be given any excuses to complain more than necessary. We both know our grades are just letters on a piece of parchment. The endless galleons on the family vault the living proof of how much money can buy- working just a mere formality.” Renault had enough money in the vault to avoid working for at least seven lifetimes if not more yet the wizard went to work at the Ministry with flawless devotion. Rodolphus fate seemed to be the same and there was no room left for any arguments against it just because having a solid façade was a must. The little kiss to his nose made him chuckle and when she sketched the shape of a halo over her head he laughed in amusement. “Angel- you don’t know half of my tricks.” he said- his tone low and seductive before he silenced her words with a kiss. Observant they might be but now they have proven their skills didn’t work so well when it comes to the obvious and them. Yet there was time and he was certain they will come to terms regarding the new aspects of their relationship.
The word alone would have scared Rodolphus out of his mind in previous opportunities but he found out it did not frighten him when he tied the word to Angelica. Being together made perfect sense and the one thing the wizard could fear was the knowledge of what could have happened if they did not remove the blindfold in time- to imagine not being with her was the only thing that could provoke real fear in him at the moment. He laughed with her at his own clumsiness though he would have not being concerned if they would have caused a little mess with the bottle of ink and the assignments. “You think?” he asked- his tone playful. “Hm… I don’t know if I want to.” Of course he was only teasing in return and when she smoothed his wet hair out of his eyes he smiled warmly at her. “You should not even question yourself about that one- I want to keep trying. Giving up if not an option.” He offered then a smirk and listened at her words. “Somewhere else? Where is your sense of adventure?” Who could come and interrupt them? It was the middle of the night and they were outside the castle… though she had a good point considering they could not afford to get caught and get into trouble. “Where? Room of Requirements? Is still raining outside but guess that won’t be a real problem. Now- Prefects are already done with their rounds so we can sneak back inside the castle and reach our destination.” He made a brief pause to think- still not thrilled about having to leave the sudden warmth of the room and letting go on her. It seemed like an awfully long way to the room in question! “Let’s lock the door and play with Fate just a little. It seems only fair…” he whispered against her ear- his lips brushing against her skin lightly. “… besides it’s too much time wasted- too much time without kissing you and I’m not sure I want to let go.”

Outside the storm still raged on- the flashing, crackling lightening casting strange shadows across the room whenever it lit the sky. But inside, it was warm and dry, and Angelica was only too content to dwell forever in the blissful heat that she was only too happy to leech from her… Boyfriend? She laughed at the idea, the funny little bubbling feeling of joy welling up in her heart. It was such a strangely incomplete word to use for him- another incarnation of their relationship that had spanned the last seventeen years. He had been her tormentor, her confidante, one of her best friends… And this? So much better then all he had been before.
The openly seductive tone sent shivers down her spine that had nothing whatsoever to do with the cold, wet clothing that still stuck to her smooth skin. She hummed quietly under her breath, brushing a kiss against his neck before leaning back a little to look up at him, her arms still draped loosely around his neck. ”Is that so? Well, then I suppose you’re just going to have to prove me wrong, aren’t you? Can’t have me go on thinking that I have you all figured out.” She teased, arching an eyebrow at him in challenge. Nothing was ever easy between them; they had never let it be- but this felt too natural, too strangely perfect, to be anything else.
”You can play with Fate alone then, because I’m not going to stay up here and wait for the Headmaster to come in, wondering why his students are out so far passed curfew.” Angelica tilted her dark head to the side a little, letting him murmur against her ear in a way that reminded her exactly why she didn’t want to get caught. ”So why don’t you stay up here then, all by your lonesome, and I’ll go get changed, and crawl into my cold.. Lonely bed all alone, hmm?” With a mischevious smirk, Angelica ducked under his arm, small bare feet landing lightly on the cold stone floor, and ducking easily under his arm. That was the benefit of being so much shorter then him, after all!
Angelica skipped backwards a few steps, keeping just out of arm’s reach and laughing softly at him. ”Or you could give me some reason to ask the Room of Requirements to furnish me with somewhere more comfortable- so that I can play sick tomorrow, and spend the day with you?” Yeah, like that was a difficult decision. The classroom door brushed against her shoulder as she reached the edge of the room, curling her fingers around the handle and opening it a crack. ”But you know me, Rod, I’m not the most patient girl in the world- so maybe you should make up your mind quickly. Otherwise I might just get bored and decide to go back to the dorms anyway.”
And that was just cruel, since the stairs to the Girl’s half of the rooms would turn into a conveniently slick slide if any man actually tried t set foot on them. The Founders of the school really hadn’t had any faith in their student’s abilities to stay away from one another, after all!

Rodolphus smiled- part of him unable to believe it was real but also aware of how rare it was to have such a vivid dream: she was real and for the first time in a rather long time all made sense: she was as real as the storm outside the classroom and the cold freezing their bones. “Of course not,” he said with a light chuckle. “I plan to prove you wrong. Allowing you to win is not an option.” And it had never been! That was part of their interaction- Rodolphus will always find amusement in the every day challenges between them and he was certain Angelica enjoyed it as much as he did. He could still remember the little challenges back in their childhood- sometimes simple to win when he took advantage of their differences though others quite the opposite as she would take advantage of those differences or he would feel too guilty to not play fair. No matter their relationship he had always cared for her and it had come natural to protect her and want only the best for her. Funny thing… others would not survive the attempt of teasing her but he had long ago taken the liberty to do it without serious consequences. The same applied to her: she could tease him about things others would not even dream about- specially about his height- and she would walk away without any harm. “The Headmaster? Do you think the old wizard will show up at this hour? Hardly. Other students? Perhaps.” He watched her get away from him and for a moment remained leaning against the desk- not convinced about moving towards the castle. Green eyes rested gently on her small frame and followed her movements with such neutral expression that any other would have thought he was not interested in what she was saying. But she knew better- that was just typical Rodolphus.
When she spoke about the Room of Requirements a small yet mischievous grin appeared on his features. “Do I need to give a reason?” he said while pushing himself away from the desk and now standing at his full height. “I know you too well but your impatience is hardly a rival to mine.” True enough! Rodolphus was rather impatient even if he did not always show it and only because it was against what he had been taught: he had to be in control all the time and could not let his temper win the battle. Yes… the stupid stairs. He had learned that lesson a long time ago and both he and Evan had been extremely disappointed to discover the older students had been right about it. “But there is no need to be impatient. I would not let you go back to your bed all alone so I guess I can move my giant self and walk with you towards the castle.” he added- laughing quietly as he reached the door in nothing but a few steps. Once standing by her side Rodolphus looked down at her and smiled before reaching out for her free hand. “Playing sick tomorrow sounds wonderful. I believe we both look a little sick already so I will suggest leaving and taking care of each other. How does that sound?” He then looked outside and cringed- not excited about going back into the storm but knowing there was no other choice so better now than later! “You know? You will have to trust me on this one.” He did not elaborate on explanations but they were not needed: he picked Angelica up almost too gently and urged her to hold onto him before he walked outside: she had no shoes and thus seemed a lot easier to carry her considering she did not weight enough to make it impossible. “I like the rain but this’ too much!” he exclaimed while he made his way down the stairs, already shivering as the water fall on them hard. With hurried steps he made it to the castle- using one alternative entrance to avoid the Prefects- and finally set her down on the ground. “You are going to be the end of me,” he said, trying not to shiver but failing epically!

Hours before, her world had collapsed around her- shattering her fragile and broken soul against the rocks, as though she truly had leapt from the high and deadly height. What then, was this? A half smile crooked her lips, as she looked across the darkened classroom at the man that she had known all of her life- if this was the afterlife, then she had truly done something wonderful to deserve it.
She had known from the first words that there was no way he was going to let her leave the room- in truth, she wasn’t sure she would have been able to pull herself from the circle of his arms if she had been any less sure. ”Yes, that’s right- move your giant self. I’m sure it’s such a trial for you!” An impish glitter in her eyes, as she raised a hand and motioned him forward teasingly with one finger, ”Just a little closer- that’s it, good Roddy.” Like a puppy, she stood on her toes and ruffled his long, wet hair.
The familiar teasing, covering over the butterflies that seemed to take up residence in her stomach, every time she thought about the sudden blissful alchemy that their relationship had so unexpected undergone. Threading their fingers together lightly, Angelica leaned against his side as they walked- drinking in the sweet, solid stability, the forbidden indulgence that was being able to touch him. ”It sounds like the perfect plan to me. After all, I’m pretty smart, I’m sure I can find some way to make you feel better..”
The dark haired woman had to bite her lower lip to silence a high squeak of protest, her arms winding tightly around his neck as her feet were once again lifted right off the ground. ”Damnit, Roddy, you could ask first- I’m not your doll!” She murmured against his ear- trying, and failing- to hide the giggled amusement. Besides, he was warmer then she was!
The rainstorm pounded down on them, tiny, icy droplets catching her breath as they ducked across the narrow courtyard. ”I’m going to be the death of [i]you?!” She exclaimed with a shiver, hopping lightly on her bare toes and rubbing her hands together briskly to try and get the feeling back into her fingers. ”In the Room of Requirements doesn’t furnish us with a fireplace- and a fire!- I’m going to file a complaint.” She laughed, glancing left and right, down the hallways to keep an eye out for any nosy Prefects that might still be lingering around.
The last thing they needed was to stumble across Lucius right now…
Grabbing his hand once more, Angelica cast him a grin over her shoulder, tugging him along. Shh, come on, this way.” The hallways were dark- even the usual moonlight illumination completely blocked out by the heavy thunder clouds. Ducking around the stone columns, and heavy suits of armour that were around every corner; eyes peeled for any sight of humanity, or the pesky ghosts that would probably seek to amuse their evening by causing trouble for them! Not daring to speak- just in case.
”Come on, you door.. Open up…” She whispered under her breath, letting go of his hand to stroll in front of the door the required three times. Her pants were soaked, hanging loosely off her hips, and dragging around her bare feet as she walked, fingers curled into the material just over her knees to keep from tripping. ”Aha, success!” The soft grind of the stones, and the hidden doorway appeared.

There was a huge difference between the young man that had climbed the stairs of the tower and the young man now leaning against the desk: the first had been depressed beyond what could be considered healthy while the second one was all smiles and laughter. He felt so alive- as alive as the storm outside the darkened classroom. When Angelica teased him Rodolphus could only laugh brightly and openly- two qualities that never showed in the calculated laughter that most of the students in Hogwarts had heard over the years. “Why do you think I eat so much, hm? I burn calories like crazy- just moving towards you is enough to leave me almost exhausted.” he said with a long suffered sigh. Truth be told he ate like he had never tasted food in his life but that had very little to do with his impressive height… or so he thought! There was no logical explanation but apparently he was not the only one in the family- his brother has a very healthy appetite as well and for what he could remember his Father also liked to indulge himself when no-one was watching. He always found it peculiar: Renault would eat with measure during dinner but never had missed the fact that the man seemed to be eating every time he was called to his study. He laughed against when she ruffled his hair- at least tonight he was not concerned about it. He would often whine about it but considering all that had happened? She was more than allowed to do as she wanted! “I’m sure you can find a way, Angie. You could never disappoint me.” he added with a mischievous smile before deciding it was time to pick her up and made their way back to the castle.
“Not my doll? Are you sure? You’re so small!” he teased with undeniable affection. He just thought it was better to carry her and since she was not truly complaining then he knew there was nothing to worry about. Not that he made a habit out of carrying her in his arms all the time! He had done it more often as children but after several complaints- and the fact they were no longer a little boy and girl respectively- the affectionate gesture had been reserved for limited occasions. He walked fast towards the old castle and tried his best to ignore the cold that seemed to be assaulting him without mercy. He was not often cold- he actually endured low temperatures without much trouble but after a little more than an hour under the rain was enough to make anyone impossibly cold. “You and me both!” he was quick to add as they made sure no Prefects were wandering down the hallways as they tried to reach their destination for the night. It could end badly if they were caught and not exactly for being away from their dorms at such late hours. He hold onto her hand only too willingly and allowed her to lead the way to the famous room- keeping as alert and silent as she was because all he wanted right then was to be with her. They could not afford trouble of any kind. At last they arrived and she let go on his hand to perform the small ritual in order to open the door: while she was at it Rodolphus continued to search for any possible inconvenient in the darkness and only when she announced she managed to get the door open for them he walked to her side and took her hand again- leading the way inside and smiling as he immediately felt the warmth surrounding them.
“Well- there is no need to file any complaints. We have what we wanted!” he added- gesturing towards the fireplace and the dancing flames. The room looked rather comfortable: a loveseat and a small square table near the fireplace where in their immediate view while a large bed (with several pillows and blankets) took the opposite end. There was also dry clothes and something to eat and drink. “I think we should move in together. The dorms are so lame compared to all we have in here.” He laughed once more and then kicked off his shoes (and wet socks) before walking to the fireplace where he knelt down in an attempt to be near the fire. “Are you coming?” he asked as he looked at her over his shoulder- right before he removed his soaked shirt, unable to keep the damn thing on any longer as he hated the feeling of the wet fabric against his already frozen skin.

Angelica was quite certain that people didn’t risk suffering frostbite in their dreams- and so the only logical remaining conclusion was that this was… Impossibly. Wonderfully. Undeniably… Real.
The warmth spilled from the open door of the Room of Requirements, shutting behind the new couple mere seconds after they had stepped inside. Briskly she rubbed her bleached and bloodless hands together, waiting and dreading the pins and needles feeling that she knew was coming, as soon as her frozen skin realized that it actually had to defrost. Her black gaze roamed over the room that had been provided for them, a little smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she felt some of the tension begin to slowly drain out of her. ”No, I don’t have any complaints- this couldn’t be more perfect.” She said with a small laugh, sitting down on the edge of the thick, stone hearth to be as close to the fire as she could.
And it didn’t matter that they were soaked, half frozen and completely bedraggled- in Angelica’s eyes, the man beside her was still the most wonderful thing she had seen in… Well, so long that she couldn’t actually remember anything that had seemed better! Absently she plucked at the neck of the old shirt she was wearing- pinched from her brother at some point over the years. It hung low over one shoulder, sticking uncomfortably to her skin in the way that wet material tends to. Tucking her small feet onto the edge of the hearth in front of her, and glancing down for a moment to drag the heavy hems of her much too long pants back, wiggling her bare toes as feeling finally began to return to her extremities. ”Next time we decide to have a long and involved chat, Roddykins, we have to find somewhere a little more comfortable to do it!” Wrinkling up her nose and twisting her long, black hair in her hands to try and wring out some of the water.
She looked up just in time to see his equally soaked shirt meet a dryer Fate, plucking it up and draping it over the grate to warm up. Attention caught, watching the golden red firelight play over his tanned skin, and the smooth play of muscles beneath it. Oh she knew he was handsome- that much was obvious to anyone that had eyes. Reaching out, she trailed a slim, cold finger across his shoulder, winding down the length of his arm curiously. Living for so long under the guise of merely friendship, she had always muted the little voice that had wanted to reach out and touch him- it was with no little amusement, a little smile playing on her lips, that she realized she didn’t have to anymore. ”If I tell you how insanely gorgeous you look right now, are you ever going to let me forget it?”

And Rodolphus could only agree with her! He had no reason to complain about the room they find themselves in- it had everything they needed at the moment and perhaps more. Despite the luxury he had enjoyed since he was only a child Rodolphus was a young man of simple taste: as long as he had the basic he could adapt without much or any problem at all. When not forced to dress up to portrait the ultimate pureblood he liked to wear simple clothes- casual and comfortable and in neutral colors. He did not experiment much with it and stick to what he believed it suited him best. Angelica did not take long in joining him and even if his attention had been stolen by the dancing flames he was still aware of her presence- the inner peace he felt more than enough indication. Even before the very unexpected change in their relationship she had been surprisingly skilled at calming him down and most of the time she did not require words to soothe the short-tempered wizard- reason why silence between them had never felt awkward or uncomfortable. He smiled softly when she called him by the affectionate nickname she had chosen since they were children- his name even more ridiculous inappropriate back then!- and slowly turned to face her. “I don’t know,” he said in mild amusement. “I enjoyed the close encounter with pneumonia.” At this he chuckled quietly before nodding in agreement- after all it had taken several eternal minutes to regain feeling of his fingers and half of his frozen body. “But yes- next time we either make sure that the weather is actually decent or we find this room again.” He would not have mind too much under different circumstances but considering he had not been at his best during the past week it seemed only logical to find himself bothered by the cold.
With usual interest he watched her every move and was surprised when he felt her touch on his skin- curious green eyes following the path she made with her finger before they fixed on her, as if asking what was all that about. It seemed that for a moment the simple fact escaped his understanding but when her words reached him Rodolphus could hardly stop the smirk forming on his features. “Insanely gorgeous?” he repeated, his tone holding no intention to tease her about the particular choice in words. He remained in silence for a moment and then moved just enough to be able to brush his lips against the exposed skin of her shoulder- placing a soft kiss before pulling away. “No,” he added with perfect ease. “I think that if you say that to me I will hold it against you for the rest of our lives.” Both of them knew Rodolphus will probably tease her about it from time to time but he would not make a habit of it even if his ego could easily reach the high ceiling without trouble. But see- the difference between Angelica offering him those words and any other woman doing the same was pretty much abysmal. The first could honestly make him feel self-conscious while the others would not obtain any particular reaction from him. Not to mention that he believed in the honesty of her comment. “But I will also have to say I am glad you find me so.” And perhaps for the first time since he decided on taking his shirt off Rodolphus became aware of it too. He was not shy- far from it- but everything seemed so new… that and the fact her clothing was really making it difficult not to focus too much on the bits of bare, soft skin or on how the wet fabric clung to her, enhancing every curve of her lithe body. Damn- wrong trail of thoughts! Yet he found it entertaining if only because his brain could easily forget that until now he had only allowed himself to see her as a friend. “Feeling better?” he asked after a moment- attempting to distract himself. “It might be better if you get rid of those wet clothes. I know I should.” What the Hell? Brilliant- he should keep his mouth shut, really. “I mean- you could change into dry clothes.” he added quickly, looking back into the flames as he kicked himself mentally.

”Well, I was going to say insanely gorgeous… But suddenly, I think I’m going to have to change my mind.” Angelica said lightly, waving a small hand through the air as if it dismiss the entire comment, ”I’m going to blame it on a moment of insanity, and a trick of the light.” She didn’t mean it any more then he had, but the constant verbal sparring between the teens had been a habit carried over since childhood, and it wasn’t one that she was really all that interested in breaking- change in the status quo of their relationship or not. Usually she would have followed it up by a further comment, but her expression softened just a little as he admitted that he was glad she saw him that way- smiling a little and tilting her head to the side to let him brush a faint kiss over her shoulder.
Thin steam rose from the moisture on their clothing, tiny droplets of water sizzling as the fell too close to the heated stone on the other side of the wrought iron grate. ”Better? Sort of… Getting there, anyway.” She said with a little shrug, plucking the neck of her shirt back up onto her shoulder properly- and immediately regretting the habitual action, as the clammy material clung to her skin and made her shiver, ”Or not- I think that’s a very good idea.” A little reluctantly, Angelica twisted around and moved away from the fire, gingerly putting her bare feet on the floor that was a little cover then the hearth had been.
Now, Angelica had seen Rodolphus look many ways over the years. Sick, sad, hurt (too often,) happy, teasing… But she couldn’t remember a single moment in the last seventeen years that she had seen him look so… Glancing over her shoulder, she paused, searching for the right word, and nearly laughing out loud when her mind supplied it. ”You’re blushing!” She exclaimed incredulously, her smile turning a little mischevious at the edges, ”Roddy, what are you blushing about?” She teased, walking over to the small end table near the foot of the bed that held dry clothes for both of them.
There was less light over here, the fluttering flames from the fireplace making the elongated shadows streak across the stone walls oddly. Angelica reached over to the table, curling a finger through the straps of the nightgown that she recognized as one of her own- wondering for a brief moment if it had simply been duplicated, or if her own had magically vanished from her trunk. ”It seems like we have a Room of Requirements with a sense of humour.” She said dryly under her breath, seriously considering it if was worth it to get changed, or if wet clothing would actually be warmer. Looking over her shoulder a little self consciously, Rod seemed to be completely absorbed in hiding his face in the flames- and really, since when had she been self conscious?! Well, before tonight, anyway.
And it was Rodolphus, for Merlin’s sake. Her mind supplied, as if that should render the entire internal debate pointless.
Turning her back to him, the small, dark haired woman tugged the uncomfortably sticky shirt off, shivering and shifting her weight from foot to foot as she let it drop to the floor with a wet sound. It was very quickly followed by her pajamas pants, which were weighted down enough to require her to hold them up with one hand anyway. Shimmying the black material over her head, (apart from the usual Slytherin green, and a few splashes of dark blue and purple, most of what she owned was black, or equally dark.) It was just as figure hugging as she remembered, the edges of the deep neckline trimmed in a tiny row of lace stitches. It stopped a handful, (several handfuls, in her opinion) of inches above her knees… Oh, but it was dry! Wiggling her finally thawing bare toes against the stone, she sighed in obvious relief. ”Pneumonia really isn’t on my To Do list for this week. Brr!!”
